Youth Hubs

The Youth Hub is a non-formal educational service provided by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ within a formal education set-ups. The Youth Hub offers an informal and recreational environment through which a youth worker can build a healthy relationship with young people. As a result of this relationship the youth worker can work with young people so that they can come up with projects and initiatives that enhance both their personal and social skills that in turn upgrade their educational attainment and employability.

The youth hubs serve a number of purposes and aims. First, the distinctions between formal, non-formal and informal learning environments are at once both articulated and resolved: learning becomes a lifelong pursuit regardless of age or environment. Second, the merits and ends of particular forms of learning emerge as both distinctive and mutually supportive. Third, the effect on young people’s moral and confidence through their active involvement and participation in shaping and developing their own learning environment is a means of empowering them to make decisions, to work towards the achievement of their aims and aspirations and to take responsibility for their actions both as individuals and citizens.

The Youth Hub was launched on the 1st March 2013 and is incorporated within Youth.Inc. Youth.Inc is aimed to motivate young people between the age of 16 and 21 that have not managed to pursue their studies, primarily because they either ceased attending secondary schooling or did not obtain enough SEC qualifications, to become more active participants in their own learning and aspires to serve as an opportunity for youths to acquire knowledge, skills and other competences through formal and informal learning. The learning environment is aimed to encourage the active involvement of the student keeping in mind that it is not the traditional classroom. This training leads to a recognised qualification that falls under the National Qualifications Levels 1 and 2.

Other Youth Hubs are situated at the MCAST Student House, at the Junior College and at the Giovanni Curmi Higher Secoindary School. The aim of this Youth Hub is to provide young people with the space to relax and unwind and also to be the space where they can develop ideas, organise activities and work on projects. The youth worker in charge of the place assist young people to develop any ideas and initiatives. The Youth Hub is the place where young people can feel empowered to realise their dream projects. More importantly it is the place where youth come together in a friendly atmosphere to encourage each other and energise one another.

Within this setting the Youth Hub brings closer the services of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ to young people and will provide a space where these young people can come up with projects and initiatives.
