5th Coordination meeting of the No Hate Speech Movement

28-30 June 2017 Bucharest

As the National Campaign Coordinator of the No Hate Speech Movement in Malta, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ was present during the 5th annual coordination meeting that took place in Bucharest, Romania between the 28-30 June 2017.
The Youth campaign is implemented by 80 online activists and 44 national campaigns across Europe, Canada, Mexico and Morocco. Together they work towards the same goal in their respective countries, and are cooperating in regional and international initiatives, with the support of their respective Ministries of Youth Affairs, other public institutions, and human rights organisations.

The scope of the meeting was to identify opportunities to strengthen education for human rights and democratic values using the new manual ‘We CAN!’ and ‘Bookmarks’, to plan the Action Days for 2017 and to prepare the evaluation of the campaign 2016-2017.

The 5th annual coordination meeting in Bucharest is of special strategic importance for the No Hate Speech Movement Youth campaign of the Council of Europe, as the campaign’s implementation, in the current form carried out by the Youth Department, will end in December 2017. A new plan is being drafted for the continuation of work on Hate Speech by the Council of Europe building on the legacy of the Youth campaign.

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ has been involved in the No Hate Speech Movement since its inception in 2013 and foresees to continue building on its legacy after Decmber 2017, since human rights values will continue to guide its work with and for young people
