Iż-żgħażagħ u t-tmexxija

Leadership was the main focus of the seminar held last Saturday at the Youth Village – St. Venera.  In attendance were young people interested in this theme mainly hailing from Youth Local Councils.

The main aims in holding this seminar were to enhance the empowerment of young people through political participation, to acknowledge their success in roles that see them implementing projects in their communities as well as to discuss the challenges they encounter as young active citizens working in groups.  The first part of the seminar was an award ceremony for youth local councils who secured funding to implement projects during the past year.  A  video focusing on Terence Agius – Mayor of Kirkop as a young leader, and a presentation on e-platforms as tools to enhance participation preceded a panel discussion about the various issues related to youth and leadership.

Taking part in the discussion were a youth local councillor – Jake Seracino, a youth worker facilitating a youth local council – Ms. Rosanna Ciliberti, Mqabba Local Council Mayor – Dr. Charlene Zammit and Mr. Simon Schembri – youth worker at AZ@K and manager of OPIN E-Platform.  The young people then divided into workshops where they presented their views and recommendations on how to enhance the democratic participation of young people.
