Songcraft hit it's highest note

Songcraft hit it's highest note last weekend with a showcase event held at the theatre in St James Cavalier.

Maya, Bradley, Maria, Mark and Lara treated the audience present to a repertoire of original songs and cover versions where they truly showcased their talent and refined rendering thanks also to the expert mentoring of Alexandra Alden, Alison Galea, and Ivan Borg during the past weeks.

As is the case for most projectundertaken by Aġenzija Żgħażgħ as part of its Empowerment programme, the process is always as, if not more important than the product.  The young singer songwriters who took part in Songcraft were involved in an intensive 3 month experience,  where they had the opportunity to get to know each other and the people behind the project.

On the part of Aġenzija Żgħazagħ, they were assigned a youth worker who followed their progress and was in touch with them to facilitate their involvement in this collective project, and to accompany them when they went to promote themselves on radio and on television.  Spazju Kreattiv took care of engaging the mentors and also to provide the set for the final concert.

A formula that worked well was the pairing the singer songwriters for their sessions with the mentors.  This resulted in a three way exchange between them, as was evident in the rapport which the young people built with their mentors but also between them as friends with a common love for writing and singing their own songs.  Songcraft was also an opportunity for Aġenzija Żgħażagħ to promote cross-sectoral collaboration with partners, who are specialised in their fields to ensure that its offer and delivery to young people is truly empowering.

Agenzija Zghazagh and Spazju Kreattiv are truly proud of having undertaken this collaborative project, which was a first but certainly not the last.
